Purbrook Park School  - www.purbrookparkschool.co.uk

True Colors UK has been working with Purbrook Park School to create a True Colors culture throughout the school since September 2009.  The progressive and inclusive culture at the school lends itself well to True Colors.  Starting initially with INSET "Wellbeing Days" - we have trained 14 of the teaching staff to run workshops for staff and use True Colors with the pupils.

Here are some comments from staff members who attended a True Colors Wellbeing Day held at the school for the teaching team:

"True Colors gives you another paradigm of thinking. You can see things differently and understand how others behave, not just mad, bad, sad. We're really excited about rolling it out to all of the staff and pupils. Senior management staff got so much from it they can't wait to do it again with their teams."

Steve Young,  Assistant Head, Purbrook Park School

"I now have a much better understanding of how my team works and they have a better understanding of me.  I recognised the impact True Colors could have not just for staff but for the entire school. The wellbeing session was such a success, even my most experienced team members said it was the best they had experienced. One admitted 'now I finally understand myself'.

History of True Colors® In Education

True Colors® has been transforming the education system in the United States for the past 30 years. It was created originally for “at risk” and excluded children to enable them to build the skills and confidence to rejoin the school system.

Today True Colors® provides a simple, fun and interactive way for pupils and students to develop an understanding and appreciation of themselves and those around them.

Not only meeting the criteria for SEAL programmes, as set out by the government, it takes the development of emotional literacy further by enabling children to understand why they experience the emotions they do. In this way they learn to manage emotions as well as express them. (Click here for our Holistic Approach Summary)

In addition to increasing self esteem, self belief and the ability to work with others it is also being used very effectively as a resource to overcome specific issues such as truancy, bullying and drug abuse.  Click here to see the way in which one School District in the US uses True Colors in all their schools (Click here for the quote from the Arlington Public Schools District)

Our passion is for all young people to be in esteem and to develop their unique skills and talents, enabling them to achieve their fullest potential and make a positive contribution to society – now and in the future. True Colors® is a unique, easy and sustainable way to achieve this.

True Colors UK have developed the Star Materials using the concept of True Colors® to make the concept even more accessible for pupils and students in the UK.  These materials are summarised in our Education Brochure which can be downloaded by clicking here.

We certify Teachers and Lecturers to use our Star Materials within their schools to become the True Colors® champion within their school, college or university.  Click here to request information about the Certification Process within Schools.

We are proud to announce that we are now accredited providers for the Young, Gifted and Talented (YG&T) programme in the UK.  We have applied for funding so support the introduction of "I Am A Star" for years 5 and 6.  If you would like more information about the YG&T programme - logon to their website http://ygt.dcsf.gov.uk

The vision for the Young Gifted & Talented (YG&T) programme is to give all gifted and talented learners in England the opportunity to reach their full potential.
